AADES Conference 2026 - Call for Workshop Proposals

The 2026 AADES Conference will be held in Sydney on the 3-4 September 2026. The theme for the conference is Lead Learn Thrive. The conference venue is the Sofitel Wentworth, Sydney.

‍Call for Workshop Proposals

AADES is the peak organisation in Australasia supporting and representing P-12 public online, virtual and distance education teachers and schools.

‍The biennial conference is an opportunity to showcase online and distance learning pedagogies and practices with a focus on building connections, making contributions so that all students thrive.

‍We invite you to submit a proposal for an interactive workshop focused on one or more of the conference strands described below (topics in brackets are suggestions only).

  • Lead (leading innovation, learning culture, supporting change, collaboration, evaluative practice, strategic improvement, the effective online teacher, technology and systems)
  • Learn (evidence-informed practice, professional learning, curriculum design, developing the self-directed learner, explicit teaching, the learning ecosystem)
  • Thrive (wellbeing, inclusion, belonging, connection, student voice and agency, building resilience, ensuring every student feels seen and valued)

‍Workshop information

Please note the following characteristics and expectations of interactive workshops and the team who lead them:

Workshop Content and Format

  • Workshops are expected to share the process and experiences of translating research into their context and the impact that these ideas have had on their own teaching practice.
  • Workshops should directly connect to one or more of the conference strands.
  • Workshops must be interactive, with multiple opportunities (in small groups and/or individually) for participants to discuss experiences, practice using tools, reflect on questions, make or create, lesson plans, get feedback, etc.  These are NOT lectures or paper presentations.
  • Workshops should include a paper or digital (preferably)  resource that can be used by participants to support their practice.

Workshop Logistics

  • Each workshop is 60 minutes.
  • Facilitators should be willing to offer their workshop once or twice, depending on conference needs. Presenters may be asked to present a webinar of their workshop at a later date, for those that are unable to attend.
  • Most workshops will have a maximum of 50 participants.

Workshops Facilitators

  • Special priority will be given to workshops proposed by K-12 teacher practitioners in AADES member schools.

Workshop proposal are due no later than Friday 24 April, 2026.

Conference organisers will notify applicants of the outcome of their proposals by Friday 8 May.

Maximum 15 words; may be edited for publication.

Maximum 100 words; may be edited for publication.

Conference Strands:

You will be asked to select from one or more of the three conference strands: Lead, Learn, Thrive.

Educational Context:

Please indicate the relevant schooling level(s) or student cohort(s) your workshop focus is on: Whole school, Primary, Middle, Senior or Alternative learning.

Detailed Description (300 word maximum):

This section provides an opportunity to outline the content and structure of your session in greater depth. Your submission must address the following:

  • Alignment with one or more of the conference strands or the overall conference theme
  • How the workshop demonstrates evidence-informed innovation or practice that strengthens online and distance learning and teaching
  • Strategies that will be used to actively engage participants and encourage interaction
  • Clearly defined learning outcomes and strong sense of purpose and direction
  • The value and relevance of the session for attendees and the broader profession
  • Details of any digital resources or materials participants will receive
